Wrapping Paper Nada Debs
( Lebanon, 2012 )
Collection :
bags & packages
Age/Era :
2010-2018

Wrapping paper used in the shop of the Lebanese furniture designer Nada Debs. The two-coloured design refers back to ornaments mostly mosques and faiences are known for. The designer plays with the heritage of "Islamic Art" but "de-Islamizes" it by putting it into knew design contexts and pairing it with the simplicity of Japanese furniture design. This appropriation of patterns rather identified as Islamic is part of a larger non-Islamic graphic design trend in Lebanon and elsewhere.
